Occupational Wellness – Are you nailing work-life balance?

Occupational wellness refers to the balance between work and leisure time, handling work-place stress and making good relationships with co-workers. Further-more your work should be interesting. You should be able to express your talent, skills, unique gifts and capability. How does this sound? Are you nailing work-life balance?

Quick Work-Life Balance Check

To figure out whether you have a good work-life balance is simple. Just answer the two questions below:

  • Do you wake up excited about the new day and going to work?
  • Do you go to bed tired but content of your day and NOT exhausted unable to switch off?

If your answer is NO to the both questions above, you may be dealing with some of the following:

  • Wanting something different, something more.
  • Having difficulties in relationships at work. You feel that you are surrounded by idiots only.
  • Working too hard, too long hours, burning yourself out.
  • Being in-between the jobs.

I know, this is hard. This is what most of my clients, senior professional women in midlife, struggle with. Poor work-life balance. Especially when working from home during the pandemic.

Been there, done that too. But it is not worth it! Should you operate long time without balance you tend to regret that later in life…

We tend to admire “endurance” with severe consequences. Did you know that it may take over a year to recover from severe burnout?

Why not work towards longevity instead? In addition to all responsibilities, why not have some fun too.

Possible Solutions

Everyone’s situation is unique. But the common remedies in improving your occupational wellness are as follows:

  • Engage in a new project, new position or even career transition.
  • Learn to master interpersonal and intercultural communication.
  • Verify whether you are dealing with a narcissist boss or bullying at work place.
  • Seek support to improve your coping mechanisms or developing an exit strategy.
  • Sett better boundaries between work and leisure.
  • Find a meaningful way to occupy your time in-between the contracts.

Festivities and Way Forward

We have only one week left of this year 2020. It is time to take a break and rejuvenate.

The bottom-line is that we all have only 24 hours and seven days a week. Time is the most precious commodity. Could you occupy these hours wisely? Could you consider putting your own wellness first in order to have what it takes to be there for others too professionally and at leisure.
